Daniel Day-Lewis enjoyed a night to remember at the Baftas as he won Best Actor for his role in Lincoln.
Hostage thriller Argo was awarded Best Film and its director Ben Affleck scooped Best Director at last nightâs EE British Academy Film Awards, presented by comic Stephen Fry.
Hot favourite Day-Lewis, 55, beat Affleck, Hugh Jackman, Bradley Cooper and Joaquin Phoenix to land the gong for his display as the US president who ended slavery.
Argo saw off competition from Lincoln, Les Miserables, Life Of Pi and Zero Dark Thirty to win Best Film.
British-made favourite Les Miserables and Ang Leeâs Life of Pi received nine nominations and won four and two Baftas respectively.
And Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond m ovie, landed Outstanding British Film.
Quentin Tarantino and Christoph Waltz were awarded Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for their work on Django Unchained.
The Baftas are seen as an indicator of likely success at the Hollywood Oscars.
The glitzy event at the Royal Opera House in Central London began with A-listers including Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway, who won Best Supporting Actress for Les Miserables, walking the red carpet on a cold, wet and blustery night.
Dame Helen Mirren, 67, added a splash of colour... with her new pink hairstyle. She said: âI just thought itâd be fun. Iâve been watching Americaâs Next Top Model and the girl who had pink hair and I thought âooh that looks really prettyâ.â
