Catherine Zeta Jones is in a battle to rescue her marriage to Michael Douglas for the sake of their two children, a US gossip magazine has claimed.
The celebrity couple were yesterday reported to be in a period of âhush hush trial separationâ after 12 years of marriage.
But Michaelâs spokesman Allen Burry said: âThey have not split. The story is not true.â
Catherineâs representative Cece Yorke added separately: âThat is absolutely not true.â
The National Enquirer alleged the marriage âbuckled under the pressure of dealing with Michaelâs cancer battle, his son Cameronâs prison term on drugs charges and Catherineâs struggle with bipolar II disorderâ.
The magazine claimed Michael, 68, had âmoved outâ of the home he shared with the actress, 43, and their children Dylan, 12, and nine-year-old Carys.
It claimed Catherine, who rose to fame after starring in ITVâs Darling Buds of May, was Ââdeterminedâ to save the marriage.
A source said: âItâs because of Dylan and Carys that Michael and Catherine arenât giving up on each other. Only time will tell if they can make things work.â
Michael was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2010 and had chemotherapy and radiation treatment before declaring himself âcancer freeâ last year.
His son Cameron, 34, whose mother is the actorâs first wife Diandra, is serving 10 years for drugs offences.
Catherine was treated for bipolar disorder last year and briefly checked into a mental health facility. The illness causes severe mood swings.
Michael recently said Catherine was âmore beautiful than ever,â and added âI support her with everything. She is simply the best.â
Catherine previously declared: âI find divorces repulsive. I will never get divorced.â
