“They have not split": Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas “hush hush trial separation” claims dismissed

Catherine Zeta Jones is in a battle to rescue her marriage to Michael Douglas for the sake of their two children, a US gossip magazine has claimed.

The celebrity couple were yesterday reported to be in a period of “hush hush trial separation” after 12 years of marriage.

But Michael’s spokesman Allen Burry said: “They have not split. The story is not true.”

Catherine’s representative Cece Yorke added separately: “That is absolutely not true.”

The National Enquirer alleged the marriage “buckled under the pressure of dealing with Michael’s cancer battle, his son Cameron’s prison term on drugs charges and Catherine’s struggle with bipolar II disorder”.

The magazine claimed Michael, 68, had “moved out” of the home he shared with the actress, 43, and their children Dylan, 12, and nine-year-old Carys.

It claimed Catherine, who rose to fame after starring in ITV’s Darling Buds of May, was ­“determined” to save the marriage.

A source said: “It’s because of Dylan and Carys that Michael and Catherine aren’t giving up on each other. Only time will tell if they can make things work.”

Michael was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2010 and had chemotherapy and radiation treatment before declaring himself “cancer free” last year.

His son Cameron, 34, whose mother is the actor’s first wife Diandra, is serving 10 years for drugs offences.

Catherine was treated for bipolar disorder last year and briefly checked into a mental health facility. The illness causes severe mood swings.

Michael recently said Catherine was “more beautiful than ever,” and added “I support her with everything. She is simply the best.”

Catherine previously declared: “I find divorces repulsive. I will never get divorced.”
