America's got Girl Power: Mel B to replace Sharon Osbourne as America's Got Talent judge

Scary Spice Mel B is joining the judging panel on ­America’s Got Talent â€" putting her out of the running for The X Factor job here.

The singer, 37, will replace Sharon Osbourne who quit the series in a dispute with NBC over its decision to drop her son Jack from another reality show.

Mel will join “shock jock” DJ Howard Stern, who has agreed to return for his second season, and comedian Howie Mandel.

She said in a ­statement afterwards: “It’s so exciting to be bringing some Girl Power to the panel.”

NBC boss Paul Telegdy said fans will get “a strong, talented, opinionated woman to match up against our equally outspoken judges”.

The Leeds-born former Spice Girl gave a string of X Factor wannabes a dressing down in last year’s series.

It was thought she would be in the running to earn a full-time slot but it appears the new role will clash.
