Jokers Ant and Dec pulled a TV trick on One Direction by ­fooling them into thinking a fan was having an asthma attack.

Singer Harry Styles, 19, and the rest of the band were so worried they called emergency services to aid the young man â€" in fact Dec in disguise.

And to add to 1D’s eventual embarrassment, the pranksters filmed the whole New York con trick.

It will be screened on their ITV Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend.

Ant revealed: “The ruse was that 1D’s biggest fans had flown in to meet them.

“Dec dressed up as one called Jack from New Zealand and I was Ben, a TV host from there.

“I introduced him to the group â€" and the meeting didn’t go as planned. But they fell for it.”

Dec said: ““I faked an asthma attack. They panicked and I hyperventilated.

“They called medical emergencies. It was such fun and they fell for it.

"We did it in Madison Square Garden before Christmas.”

He added: “On the 1D tour they met two fans from every nation.

"We heard the only two who didn’t go were from New Zealand and thought, ‘This is our way in’. We were all over them.”

Ant and Dec, both 37, spoke as they collected a Royal Television Society entertainment award for I’m A Celebrity.

They would love to see Paul Gascoigne in the jungle this year â€" but only if the ex-football star, 45, has conquered his demons.

“His health is paramount,” said Dec.
