There was a hush of surprise when the nominations revealed no Sherlock, Downton Abbey or Call the Midwife at this year’s Bafta TV awards.

But while that may eliminate the slight predictability, it’s led two stars in the front-running to scoop up two awards each.

Olivia Colman is nominated for female performance in a comedy programme for Twenty Twelve, is also up for the supporting actress category for her role in Accused.

Peter Capaldi is nommed for the supporting actor gong for his performance in The Hour and could also take home the award for best male performance in a comedy programme for his role as foul-mouthed spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in The Thick Of It.

Also recognised are The Girl, Last Tango In Halifax and Accused - all of which picked up four nominations.
