X-Factor bosses and Charlotte Church were locked in an astonishing row last night after insiders on the show claimed the Welsh singer was âtoo boringâ to be a judge.
Charlotte had previously said she had turned down an offer to be on the new series of the ITV hit , telling her Twitter followers she would rather âpoke her eyes outâ.
But yesterday an X Factor source hit back, claiming producers had been less than impressed during a meeting with Charlotte, 27, about a role as one of the four judges.
The source said: âShe met producers at the beginning of the year but it was a very brief chat and they decided not to progress things. It was clear straightaway that she wasnât right.
âShe was, quite frankly, boring and she was never high on the priority list as there were far bigger names producers were looking at.â
But yesterday the singerâs manager Rhiannon Morgan-Bell disputed this claim, insisting: âI find this quite surprising as I was at the meeting with Charlotte.          Â
âThe X Factor team chatted with her in depth and said that theyâd love her to be one of the judges. Charlotte agreed to get back to them as they were keen to move quickly.
âWe later instructed Charlotteâs TV agent to inform X Factor she wasnât interested in working with them.â
Charlotte had earlier complained she wasnât happy with the amount of creative involvement she would have had.
She tweeted: âIâd rather poke my eyes out with sticks than be a part of the machine that kills music.â
Show chiefs eventually Âpersuaded former judge Sharon Osbourne to return. She joined Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger and Gary Barlow at X Factor bootcamp at Wembley Arena this week.
Meanwhile Louis turned Mr Nasty yesterday. A source said: âHe was brutal. He told one group of boys, âWe donât need to talk about it. Itâs a no.ââ The source said: âHeâs turned into Simon Cowell.â
Louis, 60, says he is quitting the show next year after 10 years.
