Each generation has hysterical girl fans, but what’s different these days is the way Twitter feeds that mania and turns it into a full-blown addiction. This documentary considers some One Direction fans.

Fans like Natasha can follow their idols minute by minute, as we see from a bunch of Scottish fans charging, unchallenged, through a Glasgow hotel where they think Harry Styles and co are staying â€" only to find out, through Twitter again, they checked out seven hours earlier.

In this depressing and ear-splitting documentary it’s as though there’s a competition to see who can be the most witless One Direction devotee.

When they say they would kill to meet the band, that’s probably not an exaggeration. The look on one girl’s face when she sees photos on another girl’s phone of her taken with the band is absolute daggers.

Laura, who’s 16, claims to have met them 64 times, but it’s not clear whether seeing them drive past in a van with tinted windows counts because that’s as close as they get.

Some don’t manage that, having to settle for life-size plastic models.
