Cleopatra star Cleo Higgins auditioned for The Voice over BGT in fear of "losing to a dog"

Cleopatra star Cleo Higgins auditioned for The Voice over BGT in fear of "losing to a dog"

One of the best things about The Voice is when popstars from the 90s make their non-awaited (sorry) return and audition.

Partly because it’s funny to see singers we used to think were always going to be chart-toppers do a karaoke version of Adele for a studio audience.

But also the back stories and bits of gossip can always be quite interesting.

Former Cleopatra star Cleo Higgins said she turned down the chance to join The Big Reunion with her old group so she could pursue her dream of a solo career on the BBC talent show.

And the 30-year-old said she didn’t even consider going for Britain’s Got Talent in fear of losing to a magician or a dog.

She said: "With The Voice it's about the voice, with BGT it's a variety show and you could lose to a dog or a magician."

There is nothing not amazing in this picture

The singer was so nervous about auditioning in front of coaches Jessie J, Tom Jones, Will.i.am and Danny O'Donoghue that she missed the try-out in her home town but was convinced to go for it at the Birmingham trial.

She said: "That's where I was born, it's a sign".

Cleo said she was supported by her sisters who came to the audition with her and revealed they had been approached to take part in ITV's The Big Reunion which brought back acts including 911, Liberty X and Atomic Kitten.

She said: "They approached one of my sisters, she told me about it, but by the time it was happening I was already in The Voice."

You might remember she found fame with two of her sisters when they had a top five hit in 1998 with Cleopatra's Theme before going on to star in their own TV show and tour the United States.
