Miley Cyrus faces backlash over "cruel stroke-joke" during Saturday Night Live

Miley Cyrus faces backlash over "cruel stroke-joke" during Saturday Night Live

Miley Cyrus risks facing a public backlash after making a "cruel stroke-joke" on Saturday Night Live.

The controversial 20-year-old said the reason she is constantly sticking her tongue out is because she "keeps having mini-strokes".

Her remark was greeted by mild laughter in the live studio audience but viewers weren't impressed.

One person tweeted the popstar directly: "You and your writers should read about strokes before joking about it. Strokes affect people your age, too.

Another added: "That 'stroke joke' was a cruel thing for Miley to say in front of millions of people."

Her comment upset some viewers

As guest host of the iconic SNL show, she mocked her raunchy twerking performance at the MTV VMAs .

Naturally, she stripped down to her underwear in a political parody which probably made more sense for American viewers.

She said: “‘There will be no twerking tonight. I used  to think it was cool but now that all the white people are doing it, it seems kind of lame.”

Miley, 20, spoke about her former TV character Hannah Montana and added that the young fans' favourite is DEAD.

"But I can give you an update of what she's up to," Cyrus said. "She was murdered."

The former Disney star continued to shock viewers as she morphed into Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann during a pre-taped sketch.

She wriggled around skimpy clothing while touching herself in a music video parody of her new song, We Won't Stop, portraying the Tea Party politician.

In another sketch she spoofed actress Scarlett Johansson and acted out her audition for the lead role in 50 Shades of Grey.

Miley also refused (again) to apologise for her thrusting dance moves at the VMAs.

“I don’t apologise for my VMAs performance. I got a lot of letters from angry mothers and turned on fathers,” she joked.

Gary Barlow admits that X Factor chair twist has been "harsh" on contestants

Gary Barlow admits that X Factor chair twist has been "harsh" on contestants

X Factor judge Gary Barlow has admitted in a radio interview that the finalists’ chair twist is “harsh” on contestants.

The Take That star added that the new boot camp development was also tough going on the judges because their decisions could have such a dramatic effect on singers’ lives.

Asked by Neil Fox whether he liked the new format, the 42-year-old replied: "I'm 50/50!

“It was harsh on the contestants but do you know what it was harsh on us as well.

“It's good to not think too much about what you’re doing on that show, I find, because if you look at it as you’re dealing with peoples lives, that's what you’re doing.”

He continued: “Even when they make a mistake or they're not as good as the person who sings after them, it doesn't stop you feeling sorry for them.

“You have to try and remind yourself you're making a TV show trying to find the best singers.”

The star â€" who last week announced a UK tour in April to promote his first solo studio album for 14 years â€" also revealed his frustration for novice acts that fall for their own hype.

"It does kill me every year, this sense of entitlement from some of the acts,” he said.

“They think they've arrived. And it's like 'NO! This is the warm up, this is the rehearsal for your career!'"

* Tune in to Magic Breakfast with Neil Fox from 5am â€" 9am all this week to listen to the full interview with Gary Barlow

X Factor star Lorna Simpson poses with shotgun in shocking picture exclusive

X Factor star Lorna Simpson poses with shotgun in shocking picture exclusive

X Factor star Lorna Simpson poses with a deadly pump action shotgun in a picture that will shock fans of the family show.

The singer, 26, was seen weeping with joy on last night’s show after judge Sharon Osbourne put her through to the live rounds following a brilliant performance in Los Angeles.

But the Sunday People can reveal that Lorna’s life off-screen is far from idyllic - after she married a convicted “Yardie” cocaine dealer.

She posted the shocking picture of her posing with the huge 18 inch 12-bore pump action riot control shotgun on to her own YouTube channel in February - just weeks before her first X Factor audition.

There is also a separate picture of her making a sickening shooting gesture with her fingers on her Facebook page.

The images last night sparked outrage from anti-gun campaigners, who accused her of being “irresponsible” and of “glamorising guns”.

When contacted by the Sunday People, Lorna claimed the gun belonged to a policeman - who lent it to her for the picture.

She said: “This picture was taken in Jamaica and is a policeman’s gun. I have never and would never condone violence of any sort and have participated in charity concerts promoting anti gun-crime messages.

“I was just 18 years old when I met my ex and it was a very troubled relationship. I was young and naïve and he controlled and abused me.

"I am proud to have escaped him and am hoping that X Factor will give me the opportunity to better my life.”

Lorna, who is now studying business finance at university, was brought up by her parents Charmaine and Peter in Croydon, south London, before they divorced.

Heartbroken: With ex Errol

She met Jamaican Errol Gordon, now 32, while he was living in the UK and fell “head over heels in love” with him.

But in March 2008, he was sentenced to 12 months in jail at Croydon Crown Court before being forced to leave the UK when his visa was not renewed.

She joined him in the Caribbean shortly afterwards where she hoped to start a new life with her badboy lover.

But she ended up fleeing the home they shared in St Catherine, Jamaica, before going on the run and returning to UK after their relationship broke down and she claimed he turned abusive towards her.

Family are now terrified he may attempt to track her down again and get back in touch when he realises she’s on the verge of stardom on the hit ITV1 show.

A close family friend told the Sunday People: “Lorna has had a terrible time.

“She went to Jamaica for a fresh start with Errol and they got married there but her Caribbean dream ended up turning into an absolute nightmare and she came back after two and a half years.

“She was completely destroyed when she got back. Her confidence was totally shattered and she was utterly heartbroken.

“Her family are really worried Errol is going to try and get back in touch with her now. They’re all living in fear that he could wreck her dream.

“This guy was selling drugs and being abusive to her constantly belittling her.

“She just couldn’t handle it anymore. She needed her mum, it was a horrendous time for her. Her mum Charmaine ordered her to come home.

“Her mum had never liked him, she felt he was corrupting her daughter and leading her down the wrong path and that she was too young to be getting involved with him.

“He always wore expensive clothes and jewellery, he was always blinged up big time.

“Lorna’s mum described him as a ‘Yardie man’ and said he was no good. She had him sussed from the start, but sadly it took Lorna a little longer to discover his true character.

“Everyone knew he had a sinister side. He was dealing Class A drugs - it was really serious stuff.

“The only good thing that came out of her going there was that she entered and won Tastee Talent over there.

“The truth is looking at her now she is almost unrecognisable because she has put on so much weight comfort eating to deal with her heartbreak.

“But it’s amazing that she’s turned things round and is going from strength to strength on X Factor. She’s so strong now. She’s an inspiration.”

Nailed it: Sharon Osbourne with Lorna Simpson

Lorna, from Croydon, south London, last night wowed judge Sharon Osbourne and pop king Robbie Williams at the judge’s houses stage singing If I Were A Boy by Beyonce.

Take That star Robbie said: “The vocals were on point, it was a lovely version of a great song. She absolutely knocked that out of the ball park.”

And Sharon told her: “You sang really well. You nailed it vocally, you nailed it.”

Down-to-earth Lorna told the X Factor cameras: “I’m just a normal girl from South London and when I lined up for hours and hours at the London Excel I never actually dreamed I would get here.

I just feel like I really gave everything, I gave it my all. I just kept remembering it was that one last shot. God I didn’t realise how big this is.

“I cannot believe I’m in Los Angeles, it’s like a dream come true. I’m always reminding myself that I am here. I was doing that on the plane as well. I was like “oh my god, I’m here, I’m o n the way to LA.”

X Factor contestant Lorna Simpson
Gone up in smoke: Lorna poses

“Before I came for my audition I was just a normal girl going to uni, I tried to keep up with my course work but all I could think about was doing X Factor. I’ve always loved singing but I haven’t always had the confidence.

“One day a neighbour heard me singing through my wall and she knocked on my door and handed me an application for the X Factor and it’s got me to here and I’m so grateful.

“I’m one step away from my dreams and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.”

Firearms expert Bruce Jones told the Sunday People: “This gun appears to be a 12-bore 18” barrel pump action combat shotgun. It’s a large weapon.

“It is a multi-shot weapon - making it illegal in the United Kingdom - and it’s a very dangerous firearm indeed.

“As well as being illegal due to it being a mult-shot weapon, the barrel is too short to be permitted in the UK.

“It’s usual legal use is by police aut horities abroad for the purposes of riot control and at very close range for hostage release. It provides them with a hale of lead shot.”

Only a game: Revealing picture on Lorna's Facebook page

A source close to the show last night told the Sunday People: “Lorna has been unbelievably stupid and bosses will be absolutely furious because this is hugely embarrassing for her.

“But she isn’t a bad person. She has been naive and is guilty of being easily influenced rather than anything more sinister.”

Anti-gun campaigner Gleen Reid’s son Corey died aged 28 after being shot outside a nightclub in Birmingham in 2000.

She said: “This behaviour sends a bad example to young people who will think she’s in the media and can do this so why can’t I?

“I think X Factor should take her off the show.

“She’s so talented but this kind of behaviour can’t be tolerated with so many young people in this country killed by guns.

“Why does she want to be related to something like this? I don’t understand why she would want to pose with a gun in the first place.

“She’s a role model to young pe ople. It’s ridiculous.

“These weapons destroy lives. It breaks my heart when I see young people with such a bright talent ruining their lives.”

Gary Barlow admits to nerves while recording new song with his idol Elton John

Gary Barlow admits to nerves while recording new song with his idol Elton John

As one of the UK’s biggest popstars you wouldn’t have thought that Gary Barlow ever really got nervous.

But the singer recently admitted that he got a bit jittery recording a song for his new solo album Since I Saw You Last with Sir Elton John.

The X Factor judge, 42, says: “I was nervous. It never feels like I’m with my best mate â€" it’s still Elton John. He’s my idol and I’m in awe of him.

“I’ve known him for 20 years. We speak on the phone or go out for a Chinese around three times a year, usually to gossip about people.

"But recording with him was something else.

"I had him for three hours in Abbey Road studios before he went off for a Watford game, so we had to record the song and shoot the video at the same time.

“Afterwards I sat there and thought, ‘f***, did that just happen?’

“It was quite a lot to take in.”

The pair’s duet Face To Face will be released around Christmas.

Hopefully it won’t go head-to-head with The X Factor winner’s single or Simon Cowell won’t be at all impressed.

Nicki Minaj laughs off Zac Efron sex rumours but confesses it could be a lot worse

Nicki Minaj laughs off Zac Efron sex rumours but confesses it could be a lot worse

If this isn’t completely fabricated it could be one of the best weird celebrity hook-ups â€" ever.

Apparently Zac Efron and Nicki Minaj shared a steamy night together in late July.

The story was reported by Star (US) magazine who quote a source: "Nicki took Zac to her house in West Hollywood. She said he was the best lover she's ever had."

"She thinks Zac is so sexy," confessed the pal.

"She would have loved to have taken things further, but she knew he was going through a phase [rehab] when they hooked up."

Well we're sure he can laugh about it

But her Minajesty has responded to the rumours on her Twitter in a now-deleted but always amazing post.

She asked her millions of followers: "Who exactly is Zac Efron tho? I'm sorry, I'm so confused."

Before a fan apparently replied to her post with a shirtless picture of Zefron to which she apparently gushed: "Oooohhhh ok… Well I guess that rumor isn't so bad after all. lmfao."

Which is probably exactly the same reaction every other woman in the world would have if they were wrongly linked to bedding the High School Musical star.

And here she is on the beach

Frank Sinatra's widow says claims he could be father of Mia Farrow's son are “bunch of junk”

Frank Sinatra's widow says claims he could be father of Mia Farrow's son are “bunch of junk”

Frank Sinatra’s widow has branded Mia Farrow’s claims her son Ronan may “possibly” have been fathered by the crooner a “bunch of junk”.

Barbara Sinatra, who was married to the singer until his death in 1998, rubbished claims by the actress her late husband could be the 25-year-old’s father despite splitting from Farrow 19 years earlier.

The 85-year-old widow described the revelation as “a phony deal”.

She said: “I can’t hardly believe that.

“It’s just a bunch of junk. There’s always junk written - lies that aren’t true.”

Rumours about who Ronan’s father is have dogged the actress for years with many pointing to similarities in looks between the two men.

Farrow moved to address the issue in an interview with Vanity Fair saying the legendary singer was “possibly” his father.

Ronan, now 25, has worked for Unicef and as a US State Department adviser since graduating from Yale Law School.

Yesterday he added to the speculation by tweeting: “Listen, we’re all *possibly* Frank Sinatra’s son.”

During the interview Farrow, 68, described Sinatra as the great love of her life, adding: “We never really split up.”

She married the singer in 1966 in Las Vegas when she was 21 and he was 50.

The marriage ended in 1968 as they argued over her refusal to drop her acclaimed role in Rosemary’s Baby to star in a movie with him. He died 30 years later.

Mia, now 68, wed pianist Andre Previn in 1970. They adopted three children and had three of their own, then split in 1979.

She and Allen, now 77, started their relationship in 1980 but broke up twelve years later when she found he was hav ing an affair with her adopted daughter Soon-Yi, 22, who is now his wife.

Another adopted daughter Dylan, 28, also told Vanity Fair she is tormented by fear over her alleged abuse by Allen, who has always denied previous such claims by Mia.

Watch The Hobbit 'The Desolation of Smaug' trailer for sneak peak at latest film in fantasy trilogy

Watch The Hobbit 'The Desolation of Smaug' trailer for sneak peak at latest film in fantasy trilogy

There is still over two months to go before the debut of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, but we're already excited by the latest trailer of the second film in the fantasy trilogy.

The two minute sneak peak is full of dramatic scenes, with plenty of orc action and epic battles.

When he appeared on US Today, Sir Ian McKellen promised "lots of action" in the sequel, after the build-up in the first film, An Unexpected Journey.

We also get to see the new face of Evangeline Lily (Kate from Lost), who plays flame-haired romantic elf interest Tourirl, alongside old favourite Orlando Bloom, who plays Legolas. It will be the first time Bloom's character has appeared on the big screen for a decade, since Jackson's Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in 2003.

Although the characters weren't featured in Tolkien's original 1937 novel, Peter Jackson seems to have made it work in his new film - if the trailer is anything to go by...

The clip pieces together the journey of Bilbo Baggins, played by Martin Freeman, alongside fleeting scenes of Ian McKellen's foreboding portrayal of Gandalf.

Still his usual, ominous self, he is heard to utter: "We're been blind, and in our blindness our enemy has returned."

He was rarely the cheerful type.

We also have taste of Smaug the dragon, as Benedict Cumberbatch's menacing tones can also be heard - although we don't actually see the creature.

But where it lacks in dragon, the trailer certainly makes up for it in action and suspense.

The Hobbit" The Desolation of Smaug will be released in the UK cinemas on 13 December.

Michael Jackson's mum Katherine happy she's finally 'found the truth' despite losing AEG lawsuit over his death

Michael Jackson's mum Katherine happy she's finally 'found the truth' despite losing AEG lawsuit over his death

Katherine Jackson is content that she finally knows the truth behind what happened to her son Michael, despite losing her wrongful death lawsuit against concert promoter AEG Live LLC.

The King of Pop’s mother sued the company over the hiring of Dr. Conrad Murray, who was convicted of the singer’s involuntary manslaughter two years ago.

But when a jury in Los Angeles ruled that the company was not negligent, Katherine remained positive.

And she says her suspicions about the hiring of Dr. Conrad Murray have been confirmed either way.

She told TMZ: "We have said from the beginning that this case was a search for the truth.

"We found the truth. AEG hired Dr. Conrad Murray, the man who is in jail for killing Michael Jackson."

She added: "AEG has denied for years, and continues to deny, that they hired Dr. Conrad Murray. The jury found una nimously that AEG hired Dr. Murray."

Positive: Michael Jackson's mother Katherine says she knows the truth

The 82-year-old, along with with Jackson’s two eldest children Prince, 16, and Paris, 15, claimed the company should have done a better background check on Murray.

And initially the company denied hiring the doctor - which the jury dismissed.

Jackson, 50, died while rehearsing for his long awaited comeback after announcing a 50 date residency at London’s O2 Arena for his “This Is It Tour”.

During the trial of Conrad Murray in 2011 it was discovered the doctor had administered the star a fatal shot of the surgical anaesthetic propofol after the star pleaded for help to sleep.

He was sentenced to four years in prison after a jury found him guilty.

The Jackson family are now considering an appeal against the verdict which could cost them millions of dollars in legal fees.

Daniel Radcliffe will leave Harry Potter behind for new Allen Ginsberg film

Daniel Radcliffe will leave Harry Potter behind for new Allen Ginsberg film

It is difficult to see Daniel Radcliffe on the big screen without envisioning invisibility cloaks and hearing the Harry Potter theme tune, but the star is determined to make a name for himself independently.

With the Warner Brothers looking to create two new Harry Potter-based films titled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Radcliffe has decided to leave the franchise behind him and move on with his career.

And his most recent role as Beat poet Allen Ginsberg in Kill Your Darlings, directed by John Krokidas, is a far cry from the Rowling films.

The upcoming film, due for limited release on 16 October, follows the young writer experiencing a literary and sexual awakening in 1940s New York, within the intellectual circle that would become the Beat Generation.

Radcliffe also portrays Ginsberg's relationship with Lucien Carr (played by Dane DeHaan), a fellow Beat fixture who murdered associate David Kammerer in 1944.

On the transition, the actor admitted: "I have a massive chip on my shoulder."

"When you fall into something at age 11 and get paid incredible amounts of money for your entire teenage years for doing a job anyone would want, there is a part of you that thinks everybody is just saying, 'He got there because he fell into it; he's not really an actor.'"

On his first non-Potter appearance in The Woman in Black, Radcliffe recalls that he struggled "to not come close to making a face that would make people think of Harry."

"It 's just my face. I have to accept the fact that my face is going to remind people of Harry because I played that character. If I try to avoid being expressive in that same way, all I'll do is stop being expressive, and I won't be any farther away from that character."

Despite his anxiety, Radcliffe has embraced new opportunities and has worked hard to secure his place as an actor outside of Hogwarts.

"It has taken a long time to feel like I've earned the place that I'm at," he admits. The star was also recently rumoured to play Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in the upcoming biopic, but denied all claims.

When Kill Your Darlings first screened at the Toronto Film Festival in January this year, Radcliffe gushed about fellow actor Dane DeHaan: "He is incredibly naturally gifted but also he is one of the hardest workers that I’ve ever met, and that’s a pretty dynamic combination.

"I feel like in Kill Your Darlings, his performance is stunning. I want to work with him again and hopefully we’ll find some excuse. He’s the man."

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones 'not back together'

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones 'not back together'

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones “are not back together”, despite reports they had reunited.

The 44-year-old actress was spotted at an awards bash wearing a ring.

But a source insisted: “People are getting ahead of themselves.”

Catherine, who is living in their New York apartment, was recently seen out having fish and chips with her children to celebrate being named an arts ambassador by a dance organisation.

Meanwhile Michael, 69, is reportedly in New Mexico for his new film The Reach.

They are said to be “evaluating” their relationship.

Talk of reconciliation was sparked by reports they celebrated their joint birthday together last week.

But US magazine People said this was untrue, and the source adde d: “They’re not back together.”
