As far as celebrity baby names go, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s little girl is definitely up there with some of the most bizarre â€" especially as hers is basically a compass direction!

As soon as it had been announced that the couple had named their daughter North West, it didn’t take long before the gags began, especially on Twitter where users posted in their droves about the unusual choice of moniker.

And unfortunately for Kimye, not many of them were very impressed with the name they gave their child, who is now an internet sensation despite being only six days old.

Most of the postings mocked the fact they had named her after a compass direction with one posting getting retweeted and reused hundreds of times.

Some said the couple's little girl was now a compass direction!

 

It read: “Make fun of Kim Kardashian’s name choice for North West if you want, but that baby is going straight to the top. And slightly to the left.”

This was followed by: “Kim and Kanye name their daughter North West. And that’s pretty much all the guidance she can expect.”

Another slammed Kanye for allowing it to happen and said: “Kanye you fool. By naming your child North West you have ruined her prospects for a career in air traffic control. It would be too confusing!”

A few witty users remarked that when the little girl gets older she could have a clothing line or a perfume called North by North West!

Some poked fun at the choice of first name going with the second and one user laughed: “Wait â€" they actually named her North West? That’s like Alicia Keys’s mom naming her car!”

And another, made a similar, bur cruder comparison when they wrote: “Naming your kid North West is like Liam Payne calling his kid ‘p eriod’… Just no.”

To mean? Or spot on?

 

Others commented that in comparison, other celebrity offspring names didn’t seem so crazy now with one saying: “Somewhere, Blue Ivy is thinking, ‘My name isn’t so bad now, is it?’”

After the name was announced, it was also revealed that Kimye plan to call her ‘Nori’ â€" surely they must know that it’s an edible seaweed in Japan?

This also caused much merriment on Twitter as one person joked: “So Kimye are going to call their baby Nori for short. Did a dwarf wander out of Middle Earth and into Kim’s womb?”

And another laughed that as nicknames go, it wasn’t exactly an abbreviation and said: “They will call her Nori for short, even though it’s twice as many syllables as her actual name!”

But at least Kimye can call on their fellow celebrities for some support â€" well, one. Gene Simmons.

He said: “North is a fine name. North West. In either case, it’s their baby. North is better than some I’ve heard. Lashi nda and Facishia. What say you?”
