Olly Murs chats us up backstage at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Derry

Olly Murs chats us up backstage at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Derry

If there's anything more brilliant than getting backstage at the Radio One Big Weekend and getting chatted up by celebrities then we're really not sure what it is. Even if you have to actually ask the celeb to do it.

Which is exactly what we did when we got chatting to X Factor star and general cheeky Essex chappie backstage at Radio 1 Big Weekend's in Derry and asked him for his top three chat up lines. Check him out in the clip below:

Aside from the massive bonus of chatting us up, Olly's having a brilliant time of it at the moment. Having quite presenting on The Xtra factor with TV wife Caroline Flack, to concentrate on his music, Olly's gamble has paid off and he's managed to crack America. His last album went top five in the US iTunes chart, he performed on Dancing With The Stars and made an appearance on Good Morning America.

But the modest star puts it down to modern new-fangled technology and his buddies One Direction, whom he supported on their last tour, as well as the fact that people in America don't actually know he's from the X Factor.

Olly says: “In the UK, people don’t give X Factor contestants that much credit. Over in the States, they’re listening to my music instead of saying ‘Oh, he’s from the X Factor... whatever.’ I don’t get the credit I deserve. So it’s a really good thing for me. I’m able to come over here and be an artist â€" people are judging me on my abilities and my talent for my music." Hmmm. That bit didn't sound that modest. Oh well.

"Technology has changed with social media, Twitter and YouTube," he continues. "Without that I don’t think I’d ever be able to have impact.”

Still, he's playing down his chances of emulating the fame One Direction have across the pond, saying: “I don’t ever expect to reach the heights of One Direction over here, but I believe I can be a success. And so far it’s going well. It’s been brilliant.”

Aww, you're too modest Olly. But you might want to work on those chat up lines a bit.
