“I take life less seriously”: Caroline Flack says she doesn’t care what people think of her anymore

“I take life less seriously”: Caroline Flack says she doesn’t care what people think of her anymore

Having been firmly thrust into the spotlight not because of her job but because of the young pop star she was dating, Caroline Flack spent a lot of time worrying about what other people thought of her.

But a lot can happen in a year â€" and not only is she well over the public interest, internet trolls and the general debacle surrounding her and Harry Styles, but she is now happy enough in her own skin to stick two fingers up to her haters!

The 33-year-old dated the One Direction heartthrob from October 2011 to February last year and faced abuse from fans of the boyband and having to fend off daily questions about her and Styles.

Something that worried her at the time, but now she says she is over the whole thing and doesn’t care what people think of her anymore.

Speaking to The Sun, the presenter said: “I’m not so self-conscious about what I do or how I look. Now I’m much more: ‘Why do I care what they think?’

“I feel like I take life less seriously. I’ve stopped listening to other people. Anyone who has an opinion and wants to offer it up for no reason. If I want an opinion, I’ll ask for one.”

Good for you, Cazza!

Xtra Factor presenters Matt Richardson and Caroline Flack
Caroline and The Xtra Factor returned last night with new presenter Matt Richardson

She has also put the backlash over her and Style way out of her mind and now knows to ignore any bitchy comments or even death threats she receives on Twitter.

“I’ve had tweets saying: ‘You’ve got five days to live,’ and then the next day: ‘You’ve got four days to live’, ‘You’ve got three days to live’, ‘You’ve got two...’ and so on. Until eventually I’m like: ‘Er, still alive!’

“There are a lot of mean people out there and I think a lot of it’s about developing a thicker skin.

“I just ignore it. Because it’s just embarrassing for them, isn’t it? How embarrassing to be sitting at home behind your computer saying horrible things about someone you don’t even know.”

And not only has she grown one of those, but last night she started a new series of the The Xtra Factor, the spin-off to the ITV singing show â€" and has found love again with music manager Jack Street, who at 25 is eight years younger. But she’s now careful about making this new relationship too public, especially as he, like Styles, is much younger than her and it’s still early days.

She said: “I don’t want to ruin stuff by making it all public â€" I think a lot of the time when that happens, things get ruined. I’ve learned that if there’s a part of your life you can keep to yourself, then that’s what you should do. I’ve found a way to live my private life privately and I will probably be doing that forever.”
