Lady Gaga is the first performer to be announced for next month's MTV Video Music Awards - and even more excitingly, she'll be performing her (as yet unnamed) first single from her new album, ARTPOP.
At the ceremony, which is being held on 25 August at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York, the singer will probably smear herself in meat (like she did 2010) and pretend to die onstage (yep, same year, performing Paparazzi) or maybe come dressed as a man - like she did in 2011, when she collected her award dressed as male alter ego Jo Calderone. Or maybe she'll just get totally naked.
She's not nominated for any awards (well, she hasn't had any music out this year, has she?) but we'll be able to see her performance the next day on MTV UK (they're showing the whole show at 9pm, 26 August) - and they'll be announcing which other popstars are performing on the night later this month and early next month.
It's pretty safe to bet that this year's massive success stories Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - who are up for six awards: âVideo of the Yearâ for Thrift Shop, âBest Hip Hop Video,â âBest Cinematography,â âBest Direction,â and âBest Editingâ for Canât Hold Us while Same Love is up for "Best Video with a Social Message."
Also up for six awards is Justin Timberlake, who'll be crossing his fingers and hoping he wins for âVideo of the Year,â âBest Male Video,â âBest Pop Videoâ and âBest Editingâ for Mirrors, and Suit Tie with Jay Z is up for âBest Collaboration,â and âBest Direction". Hmm. We're still not sold on Jay's verse on that sing, but we'll let it slide.
Also up for awards: Bruno Mars, P!nk, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke. Just imagine the afterparty. JUST IMAGINE.
