Geordie Shore fans fear for MTV show's future after Sophie Kasaei axed for 'racial slur'

Geordie Shore fans fear for MTV show's future after Sophie Kasaei axed for 'racial slur'

Geordie Shore fans are fearing for the MTV show’s future after cast member Sophie Kasaei was axed for an alleged racial slur.

The 23-year-old is reported to have been recorded making the offensive remark last week during filming for the current series of the in-yer-face reality show, according to The Sun.

An MTV spokesperson confirmed that the former call centre worker has been immediately removed from the show, pending an investigation.

“After an incident last week, Sophie Kasaei was removed from Geordie Shore pending further investigation into alleged offensive behaviour,” an official statement read.

“MTV and Lime Pictures have now taken the decision that it is inappropriate for Sophie to return to the show.

“We will be reiterating to the remaining cast members that offensive behaviour will not be tolerate d.”

The row comes after fellow housemates Vicky Pattison and Holly Hagan were arrested on suspicion of assaulting a model with a shoe last week.

Eyewitnesses say Hannah Kelso, 18, was left with blood streaming for a facial injury and taken to hospital after the fracas in Newcastle nightclub Florita’s Bar.

She is believed to have had eight stitches to a wound above an eye after she was hit by a flying stiletto which missed her eye by millimetres.

The two incidents have prompted fans on Twitter to wonder whether the show can continue.

Pattinson, 25, and Hagan, 20, were both arrested in the early hours of Wednesday and questioned on suspicion of assault.

Both were released on bail pending further inquiries, and removed from the show.

An MTV spokeswoman confirmed that filming for the series - the most successful show on the network - had also been stopped pending the outcome of the police inquiry.

The latest series of Geordie Shore, filmed in Australia, started on Tuesday.

The previous series proved to be the most popular show on MTV with more than one million viewers in the UK.

It is a massive success for MTV globally, airing on more than 20 MTV channels worldwide in 2013 and on mtv.com in the US.

“The success of Geordie Shore continues to excite us,” said Kerry Taylor, General Manager MTV UK earlier this year.

“It continues to grow its fan base internationally is a great reminder of just how popular this cast is and how much audiences love being a part of their lives and their stories.”

In a statement, MTV said: “Following an incident during filming that has led to a police enquiry into an alleged offence by a member of the cast, MTV and Lime Pictures have temporarily suspended filming of Geordie Shore series 7 pending further enquiries.

“The decision has already been taken to remove certain cast members from the production process for the time being.”

Hagan's spokesman: 'Holly vehemently denies being involved in any violent incident whatsoever'

Holly Hagan’s spokesman said: “We can confirm Holly was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning on suspicion of assault following an alleged incident during the filming of Geordie Shore.

“Holly willingly gave a full statement to police officers in which she denied any involvement in the alleged incident.

“She has not been charged. We fully expect Holly to be given a No Further Action notification by the police.

“We are very disappointed that Holly was arrested by the police but believe in due course she will be given a No Further Action.

“To conclude Holly vehemently denies being involved in any violent incident whatsoever.”
