Christian Bale has ruled out appearing as Batman in any Justice League film â€" and looks to have hung up the Caped Crusader’s Batsuit for good.

The Dark Knight trilogy star - who took over the coveted part in 2005 for Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan’s first reboot of the iconic comic book character - declared that playing Bruce Wayne’s alter ego three times was “enough”, insisting that the role “should be handed from one actor to another”.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the Pembrokeshire-born thesp warned against going back to the blockbuster well too many times.

"We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get gre edy," he is reported to have said.

Later in the same interview, the 39-year-old added: "It's a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with."
