Matt Damon: 'My pal Ben Affleck will be terrific as Batman

Matt Damon has denied rumours that he will join his good pal Ben Affleck to play Robin in the new 'Superman vs Batman' film.

Even before the new Man of Steel sequel hits the big screen, it already kicked up a huge online fuss with fans as thousands say Oscar-winning Affleck won't be up to the Batman role.

Rumours also circulated - some of them not so serious - that long-time buddy Matt Damon would be his sidekick Robin.

Now dubbed 'Batfleck', the scandal looks to run on until the films release, but 42-year-old Matt believes the Argo star has what it takes to be our next Caped Crusador.

He said: "I think it will be great. It will be terrific. I know there are a lot of people grousing on the internet.

"I just think it's kind of funny. You know, he's not playing King Lear. It's Batman!"

Last year Ben impressed critics when he played the role of Tony Mendez in Argo, he also starred as another comic book superhero in Daredevil.

But whether he has the minerals to live up to the hype Christian Bale caused will be another matter.

Matt told the Times of India: "Certainly within his skill set. If anybody saw Argo or The Town, and all the work he's been doing lately, it's way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman!

"Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people.

"Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that."

Several Photoshop mock-ups were doing the rounds on social media - one of these gave Matt a ch uckle.

"I am a little older than Ben. I never saw Robin as older than Batman.

"Somebody sent me a picture actually (a creative fan superimposed their heads on Batman and Robin).

"It was really funny. But it's safe to say I won't be Robin."
