Jessie J quits as judge of The Voice to promote her album

Jessie J has quit as a judge of The Voice to concentrate on her overseas tour and promotional commitments.

The star, 25, tweeted this morning that she hoped the BBC1 talent show's fans realised how strongly she felt about her role as mentor.

Jessie says: “I've absolutely loved my time on The Voice and I hope everyone saw and knows how passionately I felt about the show.

"However, I can't wait to promote my new record around the world and that has to take priority. I shall be keeping a very close eye on series 3 showing my support in every way I can and really hope that in some way that I can be part of the show.”

Mark Linsey, Controller, Entertainment Commissioning said “ We’re so sorry to see Jessie go as she’s been an exceptional coach on, and advocate for, The Voice but we totally support her decision to leave due to touring commitments overseas.

"We very much hope that Jessie will remain part of the show and come back and perform for us next series. In the meantime we will now start the search for a new coach.”

The Daily Mirror reported a couple of weeks ago that the Price Tag singer will undergo surgery at the end of the year to have a metal plate removed from her left foot, a source of constant agony due to an ankle injury she incurred two years ago.

She said: “I’m getting some time off at Christmas and I’m having surgery to have the plate removed.

“It is flicking against my bone and is causing a lot of pain.

“I hurt my ankle about two years ago and it’s still causing me a lot of discomfort.

“The foot is still bruised and swells up because it won’t heal, so I’m having the metal taken out.”

Will you miss Jessie J on The Voice?

She says: “It sets off the security systems at airports and when I sit down it goes cold like a cow.

“I’m hoping it will be sorted at Christmas then it will be done and dusted and I can have some down time.”

Audiences for the second series of The Voice struggled to match those of the first run in 2012, although they pulled ahead for the final last month when Andrea Begley was crowned the winner.

Many questioned the value of winning the show recently when the victor in the first series, Leanne Mitchell, managed to sell fewer than 1,000 copies of her debut album during its first week on sale.

It peaked at just 134 in the album chart last month.

essie has been joined on the judging panel by Sir Tom Jones, Danny O'Donoghue and Will.i.am during the first two series.
