Louis Smith wins Strictly Come Dancing

Olympic superstar Louis Smith wowed BBC1 viewers with his fine physique on the way to be being crowned the champion of Strictly Come Dancing tonight.
The London 2012 silver medallist gymnast came top of the public vote after stripping down to a pair of skin-tight leggings for a showdance with professional partner Flavia Cacace.
The 23-year-old delivered a spectacular routine to pick up the glitterball trophy ahead of Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh and actresses Denise van Outen and Dani Harmer.
When asked how the victory compared to the London Olympics, he replied: "They are both very different, but I can finally say I've won something in the year 2012."
He earned a quartet of 10s from the judges after lifting his partner high above his head and performing a handstand on top of a giant globe.
Judge Darcey Bussell told him: "You blew me away. That had grace, it had fluidity. It was sensual as well."

Len Goodman said: "If this show goes on for another 20 years I don't think we'll ever see a showdance that was as magical as that."
Smith received praise from all four judges, with Bruno Tonioli saying he had the "strength of a superhuman" while Craig Revel Horwood described it as "fabulous and amazing".
Harmer was first to be eliminated after each finalist performed two dances. The remaining pairs then performed their favourite dance from the series, before Smith was revealed as the winner.
Van Outen and her partner James Jordan came top of the judges' leaderboard on the night, scoring 119 out of a possible 120 in their three dances.
But they lacked the support of the viewers which was the only factor in deciding the winner.
After the result was announced, van Outen said: "I'll miss James so much, you've made me laugh every day."
Walsh added: "It's been absolutely amazing. We've loved every minute of it. I'm so happy for Louis."
T he judges chose the contestants' opening dance, and Smith was asked to repeat his Dirty Dancing Salsa from week three.
After a stunning display, Goodman told him: "I gave you a six last time Louis, you were like a budgie. Tonight you were like an eagle."
The second display was the showdance, before Smith and Cacace chose to sign off with their Charleston from week nine.
Revel Horwood said it was "an uplifting tonic to really finish off this incredible night".
Another of the stars of this year's series has been Bussell, who has confirmed she will return as a judge next year.
The former ballet dancer has signed up for a further series after proving popular as the replacement for Alesha Dixon who quit earlier this year.
This year's series has been a triumph for the BBC, regularly beating its ITV rival The X Factor in the ratings - at one stage taking a lead of two million viewers.

While Denise Van Outen is busy not being a professional dancer, Louis Smith has been busy being a professional acrobat/gymnast/bendy person. So we were excited to see him backflip around on the dancefloor and call it ballroom dancing.
Unfortunately that didn't seem to happen. Instead, Louis and Flavia did a very nice Cha Cha Cha and the audience gave them a standing ovation.
Either than, or the seats were just really, really uncomfortable.
The judges appeared torn about the performance, though. Bruno called Louis a "snake hipped wonder", but Craig said it was flat-footed and awkward.
Meanwhile Darcey didn't appear to be heeding our earlier warning.
Week 2 - Waltz: 30/40

While Darcey stared unblinkingly at Louis' lower regions, Louis seemed more focused on smiling than dancing this week.
Which seemed to go down well - Bruno compared the routine to a ‘Valentine’s postcard brought to life’. Which confused us, because as far as we were aware, there weren't any half naked babies armed with outdated weapons on the dancefloor. But it's possible that we were just too busy staring at Louis's lower regions to notice.
Week 3 - Salsa: 30/40

This week Louis reenacted a Harry Styles and Taylor Swift dance routine. Which mostly just left us wishing that they were Harry Styles and Taylor Swift. But aside from that it was lovely.
Meanwhile, Darcey asked Louis out on a date (/ told him to go to a club and "free himself up").
Week 4 - Tango: 35/40

Louis and Flavia were dancing the tango to Rihanna's Disturbia for the Hallowe'en week. Did you know that Disturbia was a Hallowe'en song? Because it totally is.

This wasn't Louis' best week, but it wasn't his worst either. Because he was dancing the Samba. And while dancing the Samba, he managed to impress Len. Who revealed that he "liked seeing so many Samba moves."
Which we kind of thought was the point, but hey - what do we know?

You know you've done a pretty good performance when even Cheryl Cole gives you a standing ovation. Chezza was in the audience to support Kimberley, but she ended up getting a bit over excited in the presence of the Olympic athlete, and stood up without thinking.
Unfortunately Craig wasn't as much of a fan, and accused Louis of making the performance too "saccharine sweet", which we think he said just so that we'd all acknowledge his use of long words.Â
Len on the other side, decided to get political, and said Louis' performance had ‘more than polish than No. 10’s front door’.
Which could be more of a reflection of the Downing St domestics than anything else.
Week 7 - American Smooth: 30/40

Despite mostly just getting negative comments from the judges, Louis still came away with a brilliant score this week. Which is probably a bit like when you get your school report and you get an A for accuracy, but a 5 for effort. And your parents still stick it on the fridge.
 Week 8 - Paso Doble: 27/40

The judges didn't seem to like Louis' performance this evening. "There was no fire in the blimming thing. No fire," said Len, following the dance - mostly making us want to bring back the word "blimming".
Darcey still seemed a bit preoccupied with some things more than others.
 Week 9 - Charleston: 37/40

Just as we were beginning to think that Louis was going to be leaving the show without any medals glitterballs, he managed to pull it back this week with a Charleston that involved him dressing up as a doctor.Â
And the important people behind that desk seemed to love it. "I think your acrobatic skills were used wisely and to great effect," said Craig, while Len and Bruno agreed that they could finally see his personality.
Darcey's mind may have been, ahem, elsewhere.
 Week 10 - Tango/Rumba: 37/40

"Those arms were delicious," said Darcey when Louis' routine was over.
And the rest of us just made awkward turtles with our hands and waited for it all to be over.

As the only male contestant left in the competition, Louis' concentration face was all kinds of intense in the semi finals. And it seemed to work - Bruno said that Darcey the crowd was "falling in love with him" and that as a performer he was incredible. And Craig agreed, although he criticised the gymnast's feet placement.
Len didn't seem to like it though, and thought that the whole thing was "too casual".
We're not sure if you can ever be "casual" when wearing lycra and sequins, but whatever.
Semi Final - Foxtrot: 38/40

We’re sure she’s got a great life and everything, but we’re starting to feel a bit sorry for Harry Styles’ mum. Despite bragging that the singer calls her 10 times a day, the One Direction star has chosen to give the UK a miss and stay with new girlfriend Taylor Swift over Christmas.
While the rest of the band headed back to the UK last night, Harry and Taylor jetted to Utah for a romantic skiing holiday in the mountains.
Having spent no more than two days apart since they started dating a month ago, Harry decided to join Taylor on her trip to see brother Austin in skiing destination Park City.
The pair were snapped enjoying lunch at the Canyons Resort by a sneaky One Direction fan (good on ya!), with the pair all geared up for a session in the snow. A skiing session, we mean.
Earlier this month, Harry took Taylor to visit his family in Holmes Chapel. But will they be pleased about this romance now?
And while the snowy mountains are no doubt more Christmassy than Harry’s hometown in Cheshire, we can imagine than his family isn’t all that happy about his absence. They barely get to see the teenager as it is â€" and now he’s spending the holiday period with his girlfriend of four weeks.
Not only that, but it’s thought that Haylor will be spending even more time together in the near future, with Harry apparently joining Taylor during her promotional trip around Australia.

A proportion of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Cancer Research UK.

Actress Sienna is a guest on the Jonathan Ross Christmas Special when she recalls her toe-curling story.
“My poor godmother was trying to be current and went to Agent Provocateur and bought me some really nice lace underwear that looked relatively prim. I was thrilled to open up this gorgeous underwear, because girls love getting nice underwear,†she tells Jonathan.
“Then I held the knickers up and realised they were crotchless. She didn’t realise and she was horrified. There was this moment of kind of ‘thank you so much’.â€

Just in case Cheryl Cole wasn't good at enough cool stuff - dancing, modelling, singing, um, hair - she decided to learn a new talent during her evening with boyfriend Tre yesterday.
That's right - Cheryl is now a DJ! How painfully edgy indeed.
Whether bandmate Nicola Roberts taught her a few things or she's just a natural (trendy people just seem to be able to do these things), Cheryl apparently 'set the club on fire' when she clambered onto the stage during her fun night at The Rose Club with Tre.
The venue's official Twitter page said: '@CherylCole most definitely set the club on fire !! #HipHopThursdays.'
Everything in that tweet made us feel intimidated and uncool.
Cheryl was certainly dressed for the part of DJ, rocking a serious amount of pleather in MC Hammer-style trousers and a cute baseball jacket.
Boyfriend Tre looked equally street (seriously, this whole story has made us feel like such a loser) in his leather jacke t and red trainers. We've got a feeling the dancer had a few canapes tucked under his cap, just in case Cheryl fancied a few nibbles on the way home.
The pair appeared to continue the party when they got home, cracking out the mulled wine and slipping on their Christmas jumpers (before forcing the dog to wear one too).

Just as we thought Cheryl was all cool with her DJ-ing and leather outfit, she slips on a Christmas jumper and turns into a proper geek.           Â
